The Elder Scrolls 6 Title Officially Confirmed In New Teaser

2028 will mark a decade since we first learned of the existence of The Elder Scrolls VI, and since then we haven’t really learned much more about the game. One big question has always been what it would be called, with most games in the series so far named after the locations they’re set in, or after an overarching theme that permeates the narrative (Oblivion.)

There have been plenty of potential ideas put forward up to now, most of which relate to regions that are yet to serve as the setting for a major release in the series. Now, we have finally learned what the sixth mainline game in the Elder Scrolls series is going to be called, and it gives us a great clue as to what part of Tamriel will be exploring when it does finally arrive.

Over on the official Xbox website, the video game giant posted a simple image under the title The Elder Scrolls VI Official Name Reveal. That image confirmed what many of us have heard rumors about for a while, namely that the final name for the game will be The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel.

Sentinel is a city in the province of Hammerfell on the continent of Tamriel, so it’s a fairly safe assumption that will serve as the main location for our next outing. It’s in the far North-West of the continent, adjacent to Iliac Bay, and it comes with plenty of existing lore that we have learned through secondary sources in the other games.

Sentinel serves as one of the nine major kingdoms within the province, and it’s the capital of the Alik’r Desert region, where many characters from the series are originally from. In more recent times, it has served as a major hub in The Elder Scrolls Online, with major questlines and other points of interest for players to explore.

Those who are a little longer in the tooth will likely recognize the city as one of the locations features in The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall’s ridiculously big map. That game featured Hammerfell in its entirety, alongside High Rock, so it will be interesting to see if Bethesda have gone for something similar here.

The fact that the title is centered on one city within a region of Tamriel is very interesting though, and the first time that the developer has gone with this nomenclature method for the series. It’s a safe assumption that the map will extend beyond the city, but the main narrative may well be more focused than the sprawling effort we saw in Skyrim.

The only unfortunate caveat with the post on the Xbox website is that they didn’t deign to give us any more details about the game at the same time. There were no further updates on a potential release for The Elder Scrolls VI or anything like that, but we finally have a verifiable, tangible piece of information to hold on to and analyze moving forward. Let’s just hope this is the start of a real push towards getting the game into player hands.
