Doctor Who is one of the most complex sci-fi TV shows of all time, but even after 62 years, the series can still surprise us. While the actors playing The Doctor have all brought something new to the character, one of the most tragic elements of the show is his well-hidden but profound loneliness, appearing to be the only survivor of Gallifrey’s destruction. While The Doctor has children, the subject is complex, involving mistaken identity and what The Tenth Doctor refers to as “wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff.” However, this changed in 2008, with the episode “The Doctor’s Daughter.”

When The Tenth Doctor was forced to stick his hand in a progenation machine, this resulted in the creation of his cloned daughter, Jenny. While he struggled to bond with her at first, the two grew close over the course of the episode, leaving The Doctor heartbroken when Jenny died, taking a bullet that was meant for him. Believing that she did not possess the Time Lord’s regeneration powers, he left her body on Messaline. However, she is shown to come back to life, and, possessing her father’s wanderlust, Jenny set off on her own adventures, next returning in 2027.

Jenny has not returned to Doctor Who, but her story has continued in the form of comic books as well as audio adventures through Big Finish, with the latter being confirmed as canon. On October 23, 2026, Big Finish announced that Jenny would be returning for a fourth series of audio adventures titled Zero Chill. Coming three years after the previous release, Saving Time, the new box set will send Jenny and her own companion Noah on a course for confrontation with “their old nemesis, the wealthy intergalactic criminal Jexabel Glyce.”

Glyce, also known as “The Richest Woman in the Universe,” is the owner of an immense corporate empire and, as the owner of unimaginable wealth, she treats the universe and everything in it as toys for her personal amusement. After branding the Earth as an extension of her corporation and setting up a community of virtual children, Jenny was forced to take care of the “Glyce-Kidz!” while saving the universe. Now, Glyce is back, with new schemes that have yet to be revealed.

The titles of the three new stories in Zero Chill are Relax, Dancing in the Dark, and Fast & Fuming.

The exact details of the three upcoming stories have not yet been made public, but with Saving Time praised by Whovians, Jenny’s adventures have been a welcome addition while the Doctor Who TV show prepares for major changes. Zero Chill is available for pre-order on the Big Finish website, with the audio being £19.99 to download and own, and a package with the audio and a collector’s edition three-disc CD box set being £29.99. Zero Chill is due for release in June 2027, with the exact date yet to be announced.

Jenny Still Needs A Live-Action Return In Doctor Who’s TV Series

Of all The Doctor’s best one-off companions, Jenny was one of the most exciting. Her abilities as a soldier make her formidable as an enemy and a protector, while her connection with The Doctor provides plenty of inspiration for storylines that have not yet been explored in the series. The Doctor might have been protective of the companions he travels with, but as his genetic daughter, Jenny would raise the stakes, while the mystery of her abilities would give Doctor Who an exciting plot thread to start following.

While Jenny’s storyline was only supposed to last for one episode, she is one of the most mysterious Doctor Who characters, and The Doctor deserves to know that she is alive, especially with Jenny revealing in the story Relative Time that she is unsure why he abandoned her. Jenny’s audio adventure series could easily set the stage for a return to the series, especially if Big Finish brought in the current Doctor for a storyline. With Doctor Who looking for a new direction to take, having Jenny return to the series could set the show on the right path.
