Scottie Scheffler is one of the best drivers of the ball in the professional game.
Not only is Scheffler one of the longest drivers in the game – he averaged 312 yards off the tee in 2026 – but he’s one of the most accurate as well.
The world number one hit 63.94% of fairways in 2026, leaving him in 29th position in the driving accuracy standings.
As a result, Scottie Scheffler was ranked 3rd on the PGA Tour in total driving in 2026.

Scheffler’s superb driving has played a crucial role in his tremendous success over the past four years.
Now, with the help of his coach, Randy Smith, you may be able to drive the ball much longer and, indeed, straighter.
Randy Smith’s tip to help amateurs drive the ball longer and straighter
Smith provided numerous driving tips while speaking with Golf Digest back in 2023.
The renowned golf coach explained the key reason why amateur golfers don’t drive the ball as long nor straight as they should.
“Transitioning too fast is a big reason you don’t hit it as far—or as straight—as you can, Scheffler’s coach said.

“If you don’t get a full stretch in your chest on the backswing, the downswing happens too fast relative to your body’s timing, the club gets to the ball too early, and a slice or pull is the likely result.
“Instead, keep stretching as you swing back. Don’t stop until you feel the weight of the clubhead ‘tip over’ at the top.”
Completing a full turn is also a great way of performing more consistently under pressure.
Improve your driving by being more patient in transition
More often than not, poor shots are caused by getting too quick from the top.
Rushing your downswing can be seriously problematic.
Not only do you lose distance when initiating your downswing before fully completing your backswing, but you also lose accuracy.
Remaining patient before transitioning to the downswing is absolutely vital to your hopes of hitting longer and straighter drives.
If Scottie Scheffler’s coach believes that, then who are we to argue?
