AUSTIN – Texas hung onto its No. 1 ranking in The Associated Press Top 25 college football poll and earned 58 of the 69 first-place votes despite a sloppy 30-6 win over UTSA on Saturday night.

Texas A&M, meanwhile, tumbled 14 spots from No. 9 to 23rd after losing at home to unranked Kentucky. Houston dropped three spots to No. 25 after a hard-fought loss at Texas Tech, which moved up two spots to No. 11. SMU dropped to No. 22 after the Mustangs’ loss to Louisville.

TEXAS COLLEGE RANKINGS:Longhorns, Red Raiders only unbeatens

Ole Miss made the biggest jump, ascending to No. 4 after knocking off LSU, which fell three spots to 10th. The Longhorns remained atop the poll, followed by Georgia, Notre Dame, Ole Miss and Indiana. The next five are Miami, Ohio State, Alabama, BYU and LSU.

After Texas, Indiana received four first-place votes, Georgia and Ole Miss got three each and Miami one.

With Florida and Mississippi State entering the Top 25, the SEC has 10 teams in the rankings for the seventh time in the history of the AP poll. Florida cracked the poll at 21st and Mississippi State at 24th. The Bulldogs topped South Carolina and are ranked for the first time since 2022. Texas plays both the Gators and Bulldogs at home this season.

The Big Ten has seven teams ranked, including Indiana and Ohio State in the top 10.

Oklahoma and Virginia were knocked out of the top 25. Louisville made the biggest jump, climbing seven rungs to 16th after beating SMU. The Mustangs fell to 22nd.
