Texas A&M transfer selected by the Boston Red Sox in 2026 MLB Draft

The 2026 MLB Draft continues to chip away at Texas A&M’s incoming pitching depth, and this time it’s a portal commit the Aggies were counting on. On Sunday, right‑hander Jase Evangelista, who committed to A&M after transferring from UNLV, was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 14th round (No. 424 overall), making him the latest Aggie target expected to bypass college baseball for a professional contract.

For head coach Michael Earley and new pitching coach Barry Enright, it’s another tough blow. The staff hoped Evangelista could provide immediate, competitive depth in a bullpen that desperately needs strike‑throwers and reliable innings. Instead, Enright will have to rebuild with fewer arms than anticipated.

Evangelista was UNLV’s most competitive pitcher last season, posting a 4–1 record, 19 appearances, and four saves while working primarily out of the bullpen. Across 46.2 innings, he struck out 64, walked just 18, and held opponents to a .282 average a profile that fits exactly what A&M has been trying to add through the portal.

While players aren’t required to sign after being drafted, TexAgs reports Evangelista is expected to join the Red Sox organization, officially beginning his pro career rather than arriving in College Station.

For an Aggie staff already hit hard by draft departures, Evangelista’s decision adds another challenge to Enright’s first summer on the job and underscores how volatile roster building has become in the MLB Draft era.
