· · 1 min read

Arise News anchor, Rufai Oseni, has lambasted Nigerian politicians over what he described as their intolerance for truth and celebration of failure as leadership.

Rufai spoke while responding to criticisms of his journalistic style, calling out the political class for, according to him, weaponising respect to silence dissenting voices.

According to him, when one tells the truth about the hardship, insecurity and bad governance in the country, politicians see it as disrespect.

The broadcaster further stated that when the same politicians ruin the lives of citizens through failed policies, they celebrate it as leadership.

“Nigerian politicians treat speaking the truth as disrespect, while ruining citizens’ lives is celebrated as leadership,” Rufai declared.

According to him, Nigerians are facing serious hardship, adding that inflation is on the rise amid worsening insecurity.

He added that when journalists ask tough questions, politicians get angry and label them as rude or disrespectful.

The TV anchor asserted that until Nigerians start demanding accountability and stop celebrating politicians who have nothing to show for their years in office, the country will continue to go in circles.
