Tarik Muharemovic was linked with a return to Juventus for much of the last transfer window as the defender was too good to remain at Sassuolo, with several top clubs in Serie A interested in signing him.

He left Juve for the Black and Greens in the summer of 2024 and became an instant hit in their first team, but Juventus retained a buy-back and sell-on clause in his deal.

This gave them a significant advantage when he proved his worth at Sassuolo, and several reports suggested at the time that Luciano Spalletti would be happy to have him back in Turin.

However, the Bosnian centre-back eventually moved to Leeds United in the Premier League, with Juve earning money from the sell-on clause in the deal.

Muharemovic explains Leeds decision

The defender is now looking to make his name in arguably the best league in the world and has revisited what happened in the summer, when rumours linked him with moves to several clubs.

He had plenty of options available, but ultimately decided that moving to England was the best decision for his career. The former Juventus player believes the Premier League can provide him with the ideal environment to continue developing.

His comments also suggest that Juventus were not particularly active in trying to bring him back to Turin, despite the previous interest surrounding his future. Inter were also involved in discussions, but Muharemovic ultimately preferred another challenge.

He said via Tuttomercatoweb:

“Juventus weren’t very present, but I’m grateful for all the interest. Inter were also at the table, but I decided to go to the best league. After the World Cup, we all spoke together. I had the names of the interested teams in front of me, and I felt that Leeds was the best solution for me.”

Muharemovic will now focus on establishing himself at Leeds and proving that he made the right decision by choosing the Premier League.

For Juventus, his departure represents a missed opportunity to bring back a player they had previously developed and retained clauses over. However, the sell-on clause ensured that the Bianconeri still benefited financially from his move to England.

The defender will hope to justify his decision with strong performances and continue his development in the Premier League.
