Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel Etaifo Erale, has said that a suspect, Ezekiel Pius, who was arrested by operatives over an alleged defilement of a fifteen-year-old girl, is not a police officer. CP Erale said this in a WhatsApp message sent to a DAILY POST correspondent in Warri.
The State Police boss, who is on a tour of the state, noted that the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, for proper investigation.
According to him, “The suspect is not a police officer. The case has been transferred to SCID for proper investigation.”
It would be recalled that operatives from Effurun Area Command in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State have arrested the suspect, a fake Mobile Policeman on guard duty at a private school near Regal Clinic along Jakpa Road in Effurun.
It was learnt that the suspect allegedly molested and took advantage of the victim several times, anytime she came to school and whenever she was about to go home, at their security post, with a threat to kill her if she ever reported the matter to anyone, including her parents.
It was gathered that the matter came to the knowledge of the victim’s father, after she confided in a friend who reported the incident to her parents.
Meanwhile, a Warri-based human rights activist, Comrade Israel Joe, in a statement on his Facebook timeline, called for a transparent investigation into the matter in order for the suspect to face the full wrath of the law.
Joe also said there should be an investigation into how the suspect got arms and police uniforms.
According to Joe, “Information available to me is that he isn’t a real police officer.”
