Steelers offense hits rock bottom in all four key categories

The Pittsburgh Steelers find themselves confronting an alarming operational reality early in the season – their offensive production has hit a comprehensive baseline slump. While all games can yield unpredictable outcomes, the raw data reveal a unit struggling to gain traction in every foundational aspect of play-calling.

During a breakdown on “Bussin’ with the Boys,” former players and show hosts, Will Compton, Taylor Lewan, Delanie Walker, and Clay Matthews, pointed out the sobering statistical sweep currently defining Pittsburgh’s offensive profile.

“Steelers offense. Bottom five in all four categories. Scoring, total, rushing, and passing,” noted Lewan.

Ranking in the bottom five across scoring, total yardage, ground efficiency, and passing volume represents a complete breakdown in balance. Without an established rushing attack to stay ahead of the chains, the offense becomes painfully predictable, forcing third-and-long situations that expose pass protection and stall out promising drives.

Yet, despite this sitewide statistical floor, analysts note that Pittsburgh’s underlying defensive baseline keeps them firmly entrenched as underdogs. Now the Steelers will face their AFC North rival, the Cincinnati Bengals, in Week 3, and as Lewan noted, he’s taking the Bengals minus three.

Lewan added that the low production “to me screams Pittsburgh cuz the line it’s almost like the [Bengals] should feel like it’s six and a half points here.”

The dynamic sets up a classic AFC North paradox. While the offense ranks near the bottom in every primary metric, the team’s ability to drag opponents into physical, low-scoring dogfights keeps them competitive.

Matthews shocked the group by being the lone Steelers standout. He said he would take the Steelers plus 3.5.

He defended his position by saying, “It’s Week 3. Pittsburgh comes off of a tough loss, AFC North game, so you know it’s going to be close.”

For Pittsburgh to turn narrow contests into sustainable wins, escalating out of the league’s statistical cellar is non-negotiable. Fixing the bottom-five efficiency metrics remains the team’s clearest path toward divisional contention.
