The Stars’ Miro Heiskanen suffers upper-body injuryDallas Stars held on for a wild 6-5 victory over the Washington Capitals at Capital One Arena on Tuesday night, jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the second period and weathering a furious late comeback in the cross-conference tilt.
But the victory came with an injury concern involving star defenseman Miro Heiskanen, who left with an upper-body injury after taking just one shift in the second period. He took a hit from Caps forward Justin Sourdif and departed shortly afterward, finishing with 9:41 across eight shifts.
The Stars didn’t have a concrete update on the 27-year-old after the triumph, but missing the Finn for any length of time would be a significant blow.

Head coach Glen Gulutzan said Heiskanen would be evaluated Wednesday, per NHL.com. No recovery timeline has been announced.
Heiskanen entered Tuesday with three goals and 11 points in 14 games — first among team blueliners — while averaging just under 26 minutes of ice time. He has been anchoring the top pairing alongside countryman Esa Lindell throughout the 2026-27 campaign.
He’s one of the most important players on the roster; in 2025-26, he was the only player in the National Hockey League to average more than three minutes per game on both the power play and penalty kill.
Following an injury-shortened campaign in 2024-25 in which Heiskanen appeared in just 50 games and underwent knee surgery, he bounced back in a big way last season.
The former third overall selection in the 2017 NHL Draft amassed 63 points in 77 games in 2025-26 and added another six points in six Stanley Cup Playoff contests as the Stars were defeated by the Minnesota Wild in Round 1.
He finished ninth in the NHL in scoring among defensemen and fourth in average ice time at 25:28. He also helped Finland win bronze at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, recording five points in six games.

Overall, Heiskanen has managed 357 career points in 566 regular-season games. He signed an eight-year, $67.6 million contract extension with the Stars in July 2021 that runs through the 2028-29 campaign.
Dallas returns to action against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena on Thursday night, the finale of a brief two-game road trip.
