The NBA Finals is always a treasure to watch, and the first two games have been exactly that in 2026. However, it feels like the New York Knicks have been the better team down the stretch.

It could be due to Mike Brown having Finals experience as an assistant with the Golden State Warriors. Whatever the reason, San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama quite literally threw the game away in Game 2.

“Having just contested a Jalen Brunson miss, Wembanyama grabbed his ninth rebound and looked to initiate the fast break for what could have been the game-winning basket. The Frenchman would later admit urgency got the better of him, ultimately leading to the Spurs falling 105-104 to the New York Knicks to go down 2-0 in the series,” ESPN’s Michael C. Wright wrote.

The Spurs had a chance to hold the ball for the final possession, but for some reason Wembanyama tried to push it up the sideline instead of playing it out. It was a costly decision that he now has days to think about. After the game, he admitted that he wasn’t poised.

“I’m still very blurry, and that’s the whole problem. I need to have more poise, more control over the game. That’s the general image,” Wembanyama told the media.

The Spurs phenom also went on to admit something else, one thing that probably shouldn’t have been brought up in a press conference. Wembanyama admitted he was still caught up in the Oklahoma City Thunder series.

“I could’ve been better at recovering from the high of the conference finals,” Wembanyama said.

Wembanyama better come back to reality, as he is just two losses away from being eliminated and has to find a way to win at least one game on the road. The Thunder series was grueling, but he has to stay in the present.

Wembanyama is young, and that could be why he wasn’t able to snap into the moment in time. However, he isn’t riding that high anymore. This is probably the lowest point of his season.
