Sophie Cunningham spends time with family in Missouri amid WNBA season break

Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham is making good use of the WNBA’s two-week break during the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup.

Cunningham has been in the middle of a media firestorm for over a month now, after her comments against trans athletes in women’s sports led to major debates over her stance.

There have been pro- and-anti-Cunningham rallies at every Fever game since late July, and the WNBA season break is giving the 30-year-old guard a chance to take time away from the attention.

Cunningham shared a homely personal update on X about eating fresh ground chuck that was locally raised.

“I just ate ground chuck that one of our family friends raised, and boyyy was it yummy and fresh!”

This was a day after Cunningham shared multiple personal updates on social media about her spending time with family, like giving her father a spa day, as well as revealing that he still pays for her car insurance and phone bills.

Cunningham’s family lives in Columbia, Missouri, where she is spending this WNBA break before returning to Indiana for the Fever’s run to the WNBA Playoffs.

Indiana is currently the No. 5 seed with a 26-14 record, but still has six regular-season games to climb up the standings before the playoffs begin.

Cunningham is averaging 8.3 points on 43.4% from three over the season. She’s currently in the midst of a bad patch, averaging 5.0 points on 31.8% from three in her last seven games.

Cunningham said she wanted the off-court attention around her to stop as she tries to focus on the season, even claiming that it has not affected her performances, but the numbers tell a different story.

This break came at the perfect time for her, as the 30-year-old needs to rediscover her form heading into the final few games of the season to ensure she plays a real role for the Fever in the postseason.
