Simon Jordan has made his view clear on the idea of Donald Trump playing a role at the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, insisting the former US president should have nothing to do with the trophy presentation.
The talkSPORT pundit was responding to reports that FIFA might allow Trump to hand over the trophy to the winning captain if he attends the final at MetLife Stadium.
Jordan’s comments followed a remark from Piers Morgan, who joked that Barron Trump might need to step in to prevent his father from creating an awkward moment during the ceremony.

Jordan made it clear that his stance had nothing to do with personal opinions about Trump himself. Instead, he argued that politicians should not be placed at the centre of major sporting moments.
“You have to manage this man, whether you disagree with his principles or whether you agree with him is irrelevant.”
He then explained what he would prefer to see happen at the World Cup final. Jordan acknowledged that Trump occupies a unique position compared to most political figures.
“In my ideal world, a politician is nowhere near this sport. The situation with Trump has a relatively unique feel about it because Trump is such an omnipotent character.”
Jordan warns FIFA against allowing politics to overshadow football
The broadcaster doubled down when discussing the possibility of Trump remaining on stage during the trophy lift. Jordan believes responsibility for managing the situation rests elsewhere.
“If I had my ideal world, I’d have Trump nowhere near it, in terms of being on the pitch with the trophy. That’s someone else’s responsibility.”
He concluded by returning to a long-held view regarding the relationship between politics and sport.
“It steers into the narrative that I always underpin my argument with. Keep politicians away from leveraging from sport.”
The debate follows reports that FIFA would have no objection to Trump presenting the World Cup trophy to the winning captain at the 2026 final, a move that would represent a significant break from traditional protocol.
