The Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to major infrastructure projects in Cross River State, particularly the proposed Bakassi Deep Seaport and the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, describing them as strategic investments that will transform the state’s economic fortunes.
Shettima gave the assurance during the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign rally at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar, where he called on Cross River residents to support the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu in 2027.
The Vice President said the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway would improve connectivity across coastal communities, facilitate the movement of goods and services, stimulate tourism and attract investments. He added that the project would create thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities for Nigerians.
On the proposed Bakassi Deep Seaport, Shettima said the Federal Government had approved the project, expressing optimism that its development would position Cross River as a major maritime hub and gateway for international trade.
He noted that the two projects would open new economic opportunities, strengthen commercial activities and improve the state’s contribution to the national economy.
The Vice President also highlighted the Tinubu administration’s interventions in the education sector, particularly the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, describing it as part of efforts to expand access to higher education and reduce the financial burden on parents.
Shettima described the relationship between the Federal Government and Cross River State as one built on shared prosperity and development, urging residents to sustain their support for the APC.
He called on the electorate to renew the mandates of President Tinubu and Governor Otu in the 2027 general elections, insisting that continued collaboration between the two levels of government would accelerate development in the state.
