Shane Lowry reacts to shooting 62 and taking the lead on day two of the Irish Open

Shane Lowry produced some magical golf on day two of the Irish Open.

Lowry shot a scintillating 62 and he currently leads by three strokes from Haotong Li and Jacob Skov Olesen.

The 39-year-old Irishman would love nothing more than to win the second Irish Open of his career this week at Trump International Golf Links.

Shane Lowry‘s first Irish Open win came way back in 2009 when he was still an amateur.

And after shooting 62 on Friday in Doonbeg, he will have a great chance to add to his tally.

While speaking to RTE Sport after finishing up on 18, the Irishman was asked how Friday’s round at the Irish Open ranks among the best of his career to date.

“Yeah, it was one of my better ones,“ Lowry replied.

“I played great, just kept going, you know, every time I kept making birdies, I just kept going, wanting to make birdies, and I felt like I was very controlled there.

“So, it was good fun out there. It’s been a while since I’ve had that much fun on the golf course, so I’ll take it.“

“I did think about it until I had that three-putt on 13,“ Lowry replied when asked whether he was thinking about shooting a 59.

“I went out in 30, and the back is only 34, so it’s kind of like, uh, yeah, you do kind of think about it a little bit, but I was, I think I was very good at just kind of focusing on the job at hand today.

“I know I made a little mistake on 13, but I think I did a good job after that of playing the rest of the round really well and giving myself a couple of chances on the way in.“

He responded when asked about his huge par save on 10.

“It was huge, yeah,“ Lowry responded.

“You know, because, obviously I had a great front nine, and 10 is a very good opportunity, and I felt like I hit a decent second shot. I think I got quite unlucky there.

“Yeah, just managed to hole that, I don’t know how, but it kicked me on for the rest of the round, and I did a good job after that.

“There’s a long way to go. You know, a long way to go. There’ll be some elements over the weekend, and it’s gonna be a bit of a battle, but one thing’s for sure, I’m in a good position.“
