The Seattle Seahawks have made another practice squad change ahead of their Week 1 opener against the New England Patriots, one that is worth monitoring given the uncertainty surrounding the health of Nick Emmanwori.
Veteran safety and special teams contributor D’Anthony Bell was added to Seattle’s practice squad on Saturday. Rookie outside linebacker Marvin Jones Jr, who was waived during final roster cuts last weekend, has been released to make room for Bell.
Bell was released by the Seahawks as a vested veteran and thus didn’t go through waivers, but it was somewhat surprising to see him not signed to the initial practice squad. He spent most of last season with the Seahawks alternating between practice squad and active roster before he was claimed off waivers in December by the Carolina Panthers. His playing style lends itself to replicating some of Nick Emmanwori’s blitzing and work down in the box, so if Emmanwori is unavailable for the Patriots game due to his ongoing ankle surgery recovery, Bell figures to be a candidate to be elevated to the active roster on Wednesday night.
Here’s the updated practice squad as of Sept. 5:
- RB: Jacardia Wright, Velus Jones Jr
- WR: Ricky White III, Emmanuel Henderson Jr, Julian Hicks
OL: Logan Brown, Bobby Hart, Federico Maranges
