Scottie Scheffler suggests something he’s ‘always trying to rein in’ is actually what makes him great

Scottie Scheffler won his third PGA Tour title of the season at the Tour Championship on Sunday.

With his Tour Championship triumph, Scheffler became only the third man to have won multiple FedEx Cup trophies, alongside Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.

The 30-year-old has really impressed with his incredible consistency throughout the 2026 season.

However, Scottie Scheffler‘s wins at the FedEx St. Jude Championship and the Tour Championship really put the icing on the cake.

Scheffler’s Tour Championship victory saw him draw huge praise from his rivals.

Scheffler is now the highest PGA Tour earner of all time, with his Tour Championship win taking him past the $130 million mark.

Scottie Scheffler highlights trait that makes him a great player

There is no doubt that Scheffler has been on another level to everyone else in the professional game since his first victory in February 2022.

Since then, he has recorded 22 wins, including four major championships, as well as an Olympic gold medal.

But what is it that makes him so great?

Scheffler answered that exact question during an appearance on The Golf Channel after his victory at East Lake on Sunday.

“You know, I was a young kid, I feel like one thing I struggled with growing up was just being so into the competition, and I felt like I just had to perform, and I was so highly competitive,“ Scheffler said.

“I didn’t feel like I had the maturity that I do now, and so, I mean, my temper, when I was young, was pretty extraordinary.

“And it is something I’m always trying to rein in, but that’s part of, I think, what makes me a great player, is having that fire, having that competitive edge.

“You know, my parents were always trying to get me to do things the right way, and that was really important for me, because from a young age, I took myself much too seriously.“

Scottie Scheffler’s fiery temper gives him an edge

There have been numerous examples of Scheffler losing his cool during the 2026 season.

The world number one’s frustrations have got the better of him at times and it has been clear to see just how desperate he is to win.

Scheffler’s anger boiled over during the Memorial Tournament back in June when he found the water with his tee shot on the par-three 16th.

He embarked on a rant to his caddie Ted Scott and he didn’t calm down until the next hole.

Scottie Scheffler has also smashed his club into the ground on numerous occasions throughout the season, notably during the RBC Heritage back in April, and most recently at the Tour Championship last week.

The world number one clearly wants to win so badly, and anything less than perfect is unacceptable to him.

That is why Scottie Scheffler is so far ahead of everyone else right now.
