Schalke and Edin Dzeko reach agreement on one-year Bundesliga contract

Kicker reports that Schalke 04 and Edin Dzeko have reached an agreement on a new contract. The two camps were reportedly close to an agreement ever since Maximilian Wöber’s signing left some additional room in the S04 budget. Now, all the figures have been settled. Kicker notes that formalities will nevertheless prevent official confirmation of Dzeko’s participation in the upcoming Bundesliga campaign until early next week.

The agreement clears one of Schalke’s most important outstanding personnel questions ahead of their return to the top flight. Dzeko’s experience, leadership and penalty-box presence should provide head coach Miron Muslic with a focal point as die Königsblauen prepare for life back in the Bundesliga.

Although the deal appears complete in principle, supporters must still wait for the remaining administrative steps. Once those are finalized, Dzeko can be registered and incorporated into Schalke’s preseason work. The expected announcement should therefore merely confirm a transfer that has already been fully negotiated.
