DOVER – The St. Thomas Aquinas volleyball team was pushed to the brink Saturday night, but the fourth-seeded Saints refused to let their season end.
After dropping the first two sets, St. Thomas stormed back to win three straight and defeat No. 5 Trinity, 3-2, in a Division III quarterfinal.

The Saints lost the opening two sets, 25-21 and 25-15, before turning the match around. St. Thomas won the third set, 25-17, stayed alive with a 25-22 victory in the fourth and completed the comeback with a 15-9 win in the decisive fifth set.
“Tonight was a tough game,” St. Thomas coach Kristie Holtz said. “Trinity was relentless. We are so proud of our girls. We didn’t give up even after losing the first two sets.”
STA will face top-seed Portsmouth Christian Academy on Thursday in a semifinal game at Oyster River High School.
The victory sends St. Thomas to the Division III semifinals after the Saints found themselves just one set away from elimination.
“We are excited to keep the season going and focused on the next round,” Holtz said.
Hadley DeStefano led the Saints with 17 kills and 18 digs, while Jules Stowell contributed with 10 kills, 15 digs and 22 assists.
