Alexis Sanchez is hoping his experience can help CF Montreal create “memorable moments” after his move to the MLS club was confirmed.
Sanchez has signed a designated player contract until next May, which includes the ongoing MLS campaign as well as the sprint season set to take place in the first half of 2027.
The club also retains a one-year option for the 2027-28 campaign, which will be the first under the modified league calendar.
Sanchez’s move sees him end an 18-year stint in Europe, where he turned out for the likes of Barcelona, Arsenal, Manchester United, Inter and Marseille.
He was most recently at Sevilla, making 30 appearances across all competitions and registering four goals and six assists for a team that finished 13th in LaLiga last season.
The 37-year-old is one of several experienced players to leave Sevilla this summer, with Cesar Azpilicueta, Orjan Nyland, Adnan Januzaj and Nemanja Gudelj also departing.
But he is now relishing the chance of a new challenge in MLS, and Sanchez vowed to give his all to Montreal during his time at the club.
“I am very happy to join CF Montreal and take on this new challenge,” said Sanchez. “I’m grateful to the club for the confidence they’ve shown in me.
“I’m eager to put my experience to work so that we can reach our objectives and create memorable moments for our supporters.
“I’m here to give everything I have for the club and for this city.”

Sanchez not only brings experience at club level, but also on the international stage too. He is Chile’s top scorer (51) and all-time appearance maker (168).
But he joins a Montreal side that have struggled so far in MLS this year. They are 14th in the Eastern Conference after collecting just 16 points from their opening 18 matches.
Montreal are also under the interim tutelage of Philippe Eullaffroy, and are the joint-sixth-lowest scorers across both divisions. The 35 goals they have conceded are also the sixth-worst record among every MLS team this term.
“The arrival of Alexis Sanchez represents an important step in our sporting project,” said Montreal chief Luca Saputo.
“Alexis possesses exceptional technical quality and experience at the highest level of world football.
“His personality, leadership and competitive mindset fully align with our club’s identity and ambitions.
“We are of firm belief that he will have an immediate impact both on the field and in the locker room.”
Montreal have failed to win their last seven MLS matches (D4 L3) and return to action this weekend against D.C. United, a game that could see Sanchez make his debut.
