Salary cap hits, contract details for Jaguars' TE Brenton Strange
After signing a three-year contract extension to remain with the Jacksonville Jaguars through the 2029 season, Over the Cap has the contract details and salary cap hits for tight end Brenton Strange.
In total, this is a three-year deal worth $36 million. Strange can earn up to an additional $12 million in incentives and the deal includes $25 million guaranteed, $17 million of which is fully guaranteed at signing.
Part of Strange’s guaranteed money includes a signing bonus worth $6.861 million, which will be prorated over the life of the contract for salary cap purposes. Strange will also receive a guaranteed salary of $1.215 million in 2026 — which he was already under contract for prior to the extension — and $9.285 million will be guaranteed in 2027.
His salaries of $8 million in 2028 and $10.183 million in 2029 are not guaranteed currently, although if Strange is on the Jaguars roster on the fifth day of the 2027 league year, his 2028 salary becomes fully guaranteed.
Strange can earn up to $500,000 in per game roster bonuses each year, totaling $2 million altogether. He can also earn up to $400,000 in workout bonuses over the next four years as well.
The Jaguars did utilize two void years on Strange’s contract, which extend into the 2030 and 2031 seasons. However, Strange’s deal is still up after the 2029 season.
Void years a bookkeeping measure that puts more years on the contract on paper, giving teams a longer runway to spread out cap hits. So instead of having four years to absorb the salary cap hits, the Jaguars have six, which reduces Strange’s salary cap impact from 2026 through 2029.
Once Strange’s contract terminates, the cap hits pushed to the void years accelerate and come due in the current year. In total, $3.9 million worth of cap charges were pushed to the two void years.
As a result of the extension, Strange’s cap hit for the 2026 season increased by $1.385 million.
