Amid the New York Jets‘ struggles, some believe the organization could make a couple of trades at this year’s trade deadline.
At last year’s trade deadline, the Jets moved on from some very good players, including Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams.
At the time, it didn’t seem like the Jets would move on from either of those guys, which makes it interesting to consider who could be available this time around.
Among the options, trading a player like Garrett Wilson doesn’t seem like it would make sense, but Russell Wilson believes there’s a case for it, adding that if New York decides to move on from its star receiver, the Kansas City Chiefs are the most obvious suitor.
“I’m just telling you, if I’m the Kansas City Chiefs, I got the All-Star running back in the backfield in Kenneth Walker, which we’ve never had before,” Wilson said, H/T Clutch Points. “And guess what that does? That play action opens up, right? What Mahomes does arguably better than anybody in the world is throw the ball down the field.
“So, if I’m thinking about this, who would I go get? I’m gonna go get Garrett Wilson,” the ex-quarterback proclaimed. “If the Jets keep losing, I’m gonna go get Garrett Wilson from the New York Football Jets because I believe that Garrett Wilson, down the field, with his ability- he’s a smart guy; he learns quickly- he’d be great in the Andy Reid style of offense… [The Chiefs] haven’t had a receiver like him.”
Trading Wilson would raise a lot of questions for the Jets, especially since he’s been a guy who’s said throughout his career that he wants to see things improve in New York and doesn’t want to be traded.
However, as guys like Gardner found out a season ago, this is a business at the end of the day.
If the Jets believe moving on from Wilson and getting multiple draft picks in return is the better plan, that’s exactly what will happen.
