Kansas City Royals fans held their collective breath on Sunday when their franchise player, Bobby Witt Jr., left the game in the seventh inning with a knee injury.
Going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts, Witt Jr. gave fans a sense of relief on his knee, as this is something the two-time All-Star has dealt with in his career.

“I’m all right,” Witt said to MLB.com’s Anne Rogers. “It was just aching all this morning. Thought I could get through today. Just kind of felt the pressure throughout [the game]. It was on my mind as I played. One of those games where I probably should have said something, but I’ll be able to have the off-day tomorrow. I’ve dealt with it before.”

The Royals do not believe there is any “structural” damage in the two-time Silver Slugger’s knee, but imaging will be done to get further “clarity” on what he’s dealing with.
Having an off day on Monday before welcoming in the Texas Rangers for a three-game series will help Witt Jr. rest his knee and determine whether he needs more time off.
Sitting 9.5 games out of the American League Central and 12 games under .500 (27-39), the Royals can ill afford to have their best player miss time. Witt Jr. has been his usual All-Star self, batting .280 with a .810 OPS, tied with Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez for the lead in the American League in steals (23) and in a three-way tie for third in doubles (17).
