The quarterback’s availability for the Buffalo Bills game will depend on his recovery progress this week.

Ravens face uncertainty over QB return

The Baltimore Ravens remain hopeful that their starting quarterback Lamar Jackson can return against the Buffalo Bills after missing three consecutive games with a high ankle sprain. Although he has returned to limited practice, his availability for the upcoming matchup remains uncertain.

ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter discussed Jackson’s status and said the timing of his return remains uncertain. Schefter said, “The truth of the matter is, only Lamar Jackson knows when he’ll be back.” Jackson’s recovery from the ankle injury remains ongoing.

The quarterback suffered the injury during the Ravens’ Week 4 game against the Tennessee Titans. He was injured in the first half and did not return to the game. The injury was later identified as a high ankle sprain, which kept him out of Baltimore’s next three games.

Before leaving the Titans game, Jackson recorded 222 passing yards, two passing touchdowns and 20 rushing yards. He finished his time on the field with a 144.2 passer rating.

Jackson subsequently missed games against the Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals. The Ravens went 1-2 across those three games without their starting quarterback.

Jackson has also explained what he needs to demonstrate before he can play again. His focus is on being able to run, plant his foot and make his normal movements. He has indicated that simply being on the field without being able to move properly would not help the team. Being able to perform those actions without limitation remains an important part of his recovery.

Before the game against Cincinnati, Jackson returned to limited practice. He was listed as questionable but was ultimately ruled out. His participation did not confirm that he was ready to play, leaving his status unchanged ahead of the matchup.

With Jackson sidelined, Tyler Huntley started all three games against the Falcons, Browns and Bengals. Against Atlanta, Huntley completed 24 of 32 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns, with no interceptions. The Ravens won that game.

Against the Browns, Huntley completed 19 of 31 passes for 165 yards and one touchdown, with no interceptions. The Ravens fell to the Browns in that game. Against Cincinnati, he completed 23 of 34 passes for 298 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Huntley’s 298 passing yards against the Bengals marked a career high. However, the Ravens lost 35-13, leaving them with a 1-2 record across the three games Jackson missed.

The Ravens enter their matchup against Buffalo while awaiting an update on Jackson’s availability. Wednesday’s practice and subsequent injury updates are expected to provide a clearer picture of his outlook for the game.

Jackson continues to work his way back from the high ankle sprain that sidelined him for the Ravens’ last three games as Baltimore awaits further updates on his condition.
