Report – Why Barcelona are no longer rushing to sell €30 million-rated homegrown midfielder

Marc Casado’s situation at FC Barcelona has changed dramatically in just a matter of days.

Until the end of June, the La Masia graduate was viewed as one of the club’s most valuable assets for generating immediate income. However, following the close of the club’s financial year, the landscape has shifted considerably, reports SPORT.

A financial priority before June 30

For weeks, Barcelona’s main objective was to balance their accounts before June 30.

As part of that strategy, the sporting department evaluated several potential sales capable of generating capital gains, and Casado emerged as one of the most attractive options.

Having come through La Masia, virtually the entire transfer fee from any sale would have counted as profit from an accounting perspective, making him one of the club’s most effective assets for improving its financial results.

The situation has changed

Now that the financial year has officially closed, Barcelona are no longer under pressure to complete an urgent sale.

Although the club finished the fiscal year with a slight loss, pending official confirmation at the upcoming members’ assembly, the board chose not to rush into a transfer that could damage the sporting project purely for accounting reasons.

That change has significantly altered Barcelona’s stance regarding the midfielder.

Casado remains a player with considerable interest in the market, and a departure is still considered a realistic possibility if the right proposal arrives. However, the club no longer feels compelled to accept offers below its valuation.

Barcelona want around €30 million

Barcelona currently believe that a transfer worth around €30 million would represent an ideal outcome from both a sporting and financial perspective.

A deal of that size would generate a substantial capital gain while strengthening the club’s financial position, without forcing them to sell the midfielder at a discounted price.

The new situation also rules out using Casado as part of an exchange deal. For weeks, there had been speculation that he could be included in negotiations to facilitate the signing of Joao Cancelo, but that option is no longer being considered.

If Casado eventually leaves Barcelona, it will be through a straightforward transfer that provides the club with a direct financial return. As things stand today, however, there is no longer any urgency to sell the homegrown midfielder.

Casado wants to stay and fight

Despite the speculation surrounding his future, Casado’s message has remained consistent. In a recent interview, the midfielder made his priorities perfectly clear.

“I have always said it. As long as the coach and the club want it that way, I will always want to defend this badge to the death,”he said.

With Barcelona’s financial situation now under less immediate pressure, the club can approach Casado’s future far more calmly and wait for a deal that satisfies both their sporting ambitions and financial interests, should one eventually materialise.
