The Boston Red Sox brought Chad Tracy up from Triple-A to manage the big league team in the middle of the season after purging Alex Cora and members of his staff.
Now, Tracy is adding some of his own picks to the staff and is reportedly bringing in New York Yankees Triple-A manager Shelley Duncan, per MassLive.
It’s unclear what Duncan’s role will be, but he has been with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre since 2023. He was the 2025 International League Manager of the Year.
Duncan spent parts of seven seasons as a player with the New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians and Tampa Bay Rays. Duncan has plenty of experience as a coach at different levels, and should bring valuable insight to Tracy’s staff.
Red Sox Reportedly Poach Yankees Triple-A
“Duncan, 47, has extensive minor league managerial experience, having managed in both Single-A and Double-A with the Arizona Diamondbacks before serving as the Toronto Blue Jays major league field coordinator for one year,” wrote MassLive. “He later spent one season as the Chicago White Sox analytics coordinator.”
The Yankees and Red Sox have a rich rivalry, and anytime a player leaves one organization for another, it’s a big deal. Coaches are no different. Even though he was a minor league manager and many fans probably did not even know who he was, Duncan played a big role in the Yankees organization.
Triple-A is the final step before the big leagues, and like Tracy once was, Duncan was tasked with getting players ready for The Show.
