So far this season, and for the past couple as well, the Boston Red Sox‘s front office has been one of the biggest reasons for a lot of drama surrounding the club.

Whether it be trading Rafael Devers, not making any serious trade deadline moves, or letting superstars walk in free agency, Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow and his team have been the center of most controversy.

That also seems like it won’t stop any time soon, as a report has come out stating that an owner of Boston is trying to drum up a trade for a right-handed bat, over the heads of the front office. With that in mind, it seems like Breslow’s time at the helm may be finite if things don’t go his way.

Breslow’s list of failures is quite long

Breslow’s failures outweigh his success by quite a bit. Other than trading for Garrett Crochet and signing Alex Bregman for one year, none of his moves have really given the Sox any success.

Some of his top failures include trading away Devers, trading away everything he got for Rafael Devers, letting Bregman walk in free agency, and missing on countless superstars in free agency after promising Boston would be getting uncomfortable with how they spend.

His most recent blockbuster move, firing Alex Cora and his coaching staff to seemingly using them as scapegoats to blame for Boston’s poor performance over the years, may become another failure if he doesn’t do something soon. So, this deadline may definitely be his final straw. If he can’t deliver, then it might be time to find some new leadership.

The Sox do have a possible replacement

Fortunately for Boston, they do have a possible replacement that’s familiar with the organization, as long as they can convince him: former GM Theo Epstein.

Epstein is currently just an advisor for Fenway Sports Group, but he could take back his old role. He led the creation of the team that broke the Curse of the Bambino, and helped the Sox win another championship in 2007. He also helped the Chicago Cubs break their curse, winning the World Series after being down 3-1.

His leadership resulted in winning, whereas Breslow’s has not. So, hopefully Breslow can turn around this season, or Boston’s ownership may have to go hat in hand to Epstein to steer their franchise back to success.
