The Boston Red Sox have already clinched a berth in this year’s Major League Baseball Playoffs. Boston has been patiently waiting the return of starting pitcher Garrett Crochet, who has battled injury for months. Crochet is making a powerful admission as the regular season winds down.
“I felt like, with the way that went, I could go get outs,” Crochet said after a recent batting practice session, per MassLive.com.
Crochet reportedly reached 96 miles per hour while working that session, the outlet reported. He lasted 16 pitches.

Boston is 84-72 on the season, and third in the American League East. The club hopes to end the season on a high note before the playoffs begin. The Red Sox announced Tuesday that they will drop the interim tag from Chad Tracy, and name him the full-time manager.
Crochet has posted a 6.30 ERA this season. He started just six games for Boston, before going down with injury.
Garrett Crochet could return soon for Red Sox
Red Sox manager Chad Tracy says Boston has been carefully monitoring Crochet. The goal is to make sure he is fully healthy before bringing him back.
“I think it just depends on how he feels coming out of it, how much volume we give him,” Tracy said, per MLB.com. “So it’s hard to say. I know it’s not a great answer, but it’s just really how it is. How does he feel after each step? So when he does that, how does he feel? And then determine from there. Do we give him more hitters or do we want to put him in a game? It’s hard to say until you know how he feels.”
Boston was a very different team when Crochet last pitched in April. The Red Sox went on a 15-game win streak this summer.
“For me to take a spot on the roster, then someone would have to lose one, and I would feel bad doing that because this team’s pitched their a** off the whole season,” Crochet said, per The Boston Globe.
The Red Sox play Tuesday against the Cleveland Guardians.
