Red Sox Aren't Cutting Ties With Craig Breslow Just Yet

Should the Boston Red Sox make a change with chief baseball officer Craig Breslow?

It’s been a tough season for the club and it hasn’t gotten any easier. But a change isn’t coming. Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reported the news on Monday.

“The Red Sox are not considering firing chief baseball officer Craig Breslow, a team source said Monday night,” Healey wrote. “Further, amid the team’s underperformance — and speculation that Breslow may be on the hot seat — the club’s ownership hierarchy has not even discussed making a change, the source said.

“That represents a measure of clarity at a time when the Red Sox, in Breslow’s third season as the top baseball executive, are navigating an uncertain middle portion of the season.”

It’s been a trying season for the Red Sox so far. It’s important to note that Breslow has made some really good moves while leading the Red Sox, like adding Garrett Crochet, Aroldis Chapman, Sonny Gray, and Willson Contreras, among others. But there have been some high-profile misses as well. The Kyle Harrison, Rafael Devers and Chris Sale trades have all been bad. Also, the Dustin May deal last season was a miss. Also, of course, letting Alex Bregman walk wasn’t the right choice.

But the Red Sox aren’t making another change. Instead, Red Sox fans need to hope the club can simply find a way through.
