The sports press wakes up torn between Real Madrid‘s commanding display at Valencia and the blockbuster clash between Atlético de Madrid and FC Barcelona, a heavyweight showdown that will decide who tops the table heading into the break.
Madrid put on a show and go joint top
The capital’s newspapers hail Madrid’s 3-0 win at Valencia. Marca describes their performance as “A steamroller”, highlighting that the side led by Arda Güler claimed an eighth consecutive victory to end the night joint top.
In a similar vein, As runs the headline “A ballet at Mestalla”, highlighting goals from Fede Valverde, Arda Güler and Kylian Mbappé in a match shaped by José Gayà‘s sending-off.
Barça go all out to conquer the Metropolitano
The Catalan newspapers focus on tonight’s decisive clash. Mundo Deportivo goes with “Battle for top spot”, highlighting the meeting between the highest-scoring team and the side with the fewest goals conceded.
Meanwhile, Sport leads with “Hungry for revenge”, pointing to Barça‘s challenge of protecting their lead and settling scores in Madrid, with the added intrigue surrounding Julián Álvarez.
Valencia sunk in harsh reality
The mood in the Valencia region is one of utter despair. Superdeporte splashes “The harsh reality” across its front page, pointing to the alarming decline of a Valencia side that barely managed a shot on goal.
Valencia remain stuck in the relegation zone and have yet to win at home this season.
Selection decisions and transfer news at Betis and Sevilla
In the south, Estadio Deportivo splits its front page between Betis and Sevilla. Its headline “Pellegrini strips Lo Celso bare” highlights the surprising decision to leave the Argentine out of the trip to Elche for tactical reasons.
It also warns that “Alfon reopens the door to an exit” amid his lack of playing time under García Plaza at Sevilla FC.
