Real Madrid activate buyback clause to re-sign academy striker

While most of the spotlight would remain on the changes that take place in their first team during this summer transfer window, Real Madrid are also addressing the needs of their reserve team.

In this regard, the Merengues have decided to bring back one of their former academy trained talents, as a report from MARCA highlights that they have informed Real Valladolid that they are going to exercise the buyback clause present in the contract of Angel Carvajal.

Real Madrid usually keeps such rights in their academy-trained players that depart for other clubs. But with this decision, the 22-year-old forward would return to the white club, despite having a contract with Valladolid till 2028.

His time at the blanquivioleta club has helped him quite a lot with his development. Playing in the second division last season, he scored a total of 20 goals, and the highlights of his campaign included two hat-tricks, against Lealtad and Langreo. He was also called up for the Valladolid first team at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, there is going to be another movement involving both these clubs, but going the opposite way. Last winter, Real Madrid had signed the Valladolid player Adrian Arnuncio on loan for Castilla with the option to purchase him permanently.

However, the Merengues have decided not to exercise this €1 million purchase option, and Arnuncio will go opposite of Carvajal’s way, and return to the blanquivioleta club.

Before his loan move to Valladolid, Angel Carvajal was never able to establish himself as an important player in the reserve team, despite having shone in different lower categories. Hopefully, this stint away from Real Madrid would have helped him become a better player, and take the next step in his career, whether he stays at the Merengue club or leaves for another side.
