Rams put star DE Myles Garrett on injured reserve

The Los Angeles Rams are putting star defensive end Myles Garrett on injured reserve, meaning he’ll miss at least the next four weeks.

Garrett said he wasn’t himself in the Rams’ season-opening loss. Garrett is expected to undergo arthroscopic surgery.

Garrett would be eligible to return to action in NFL Week 6. The Bengals are not scheduled to face the Rams during the 2026 regular season.

In June, the Cleveland Browns announced a trade that sent Garrett to the Rams for linebacker Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round draft pick, a 2028 second-round pick and a 2029 third-round pick.

Garrett is a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year; Verse is a two-time Pro-Bowl pass rusher.

In January, Garrett sacked Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow to break the NFL’s single-season sacks record during the fourth quarter of the Browns’ NFL Week 18 win at Paycor Stadium. Garrett entered the game needing one sack to break the record of 22.5, set in 2001 by Michael Strahan and matched in 2021 by TJ Watt.

Garrett sacked Burrow twice during a nightmarish offensive series for Cincinnati in the fourth quarter of the Bengals‘ NFL Week 1 win against Cleveland at Huntington Bank Field. Garrett entered that game having sacked Burrow and the Baltimore Ravens‘ Lamar Jackson 11 times each.

Garrett has had at least one sack in 12 of the 14 career games he’s played against Cincinnati.

Garrett was not penalized for taking down Burrow out of bounds during their NFL Week 16 game at Paycor Stadium in Dec. 2024.

Garrett, a 2017 first-round pick of the Browns, played his first nine NFL seasons with Cleveland. He has 125.5 career sacks.
