The Los Angeles Rams took the New York Giants to task on Monday night. Naturally, Matthew Stafford led the charge.
He had Davante Adams at his side putting up the points, and rookie TE Terrance Ferguson. At the 9:02 mark of the 4th quarter, Stafford found Ferguson with ease to convert on a touchdown at 2nd-and-goal. This put the Rams up 28-6 and, as a result, snatched their first win of the season.
In total, Stafford had completed 22 out of 31 pass attempts for 327 yards and 4 touchdowns. The Rams also avenged a 27-6 season-opening loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

In the process, Stafford surpassed Phillip Rivers on the all-time touchdown list to be in 6th place. Now he trails Tom Brady, Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, and Drew Brees.
Throughout 18 seasons in the NFL, Stafford has established himself as one of the most decorated QBs of his time. He holds the record for being the fastest player to reach 40,000 career passing yards. In 2022, he led the Rams to a Super Bowl victory over the Cincinatti Bengals. Two years later, Stafford won his first career NFL MVP Award, edging out Drake Maye of the Patriots by one point.
Going into this season, the Rams are poised to be one of the league’s elite teams. A main reason for that is the return of Aaron Donald after his retirement. Donald, alongside Stafford and Myles Garrett, makes the Rams a perennial Super Bowl contender on paper.
Stafford’s retirement isn’t on the horizon yet. A Super Bowl win would be the best way to cap it all off.
But for now, a long season remains.
