Washington Commanders running back Rachaad White has missed back-to-back practice sessions with an undisclosed injury. The mystery surrounding the absence of White has fans going back to the Commanders ALS ice bucket challenge on Monday in honor of coach Anthony Lynn’s former player, Chris Johnson.
The video captures several players, including White, seated for the ice bucket challenge. As the cold water is dumped, all of them jump abruptly.
Interestingly, since this video, White has missed two consecutive practice sessions. There is a possibility that White could have suffered an injury reacting to cold water because he appeared completely healthy during the ice bucket challenge.

Rachaad White’s role with 2026 Commanders
After spending the first four years of his NFL career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Rachaad White signed with the Commanders in free agency. The one-year, $2 million deal comes with $1,715,000 in guaranteed money, a $400,000 signing bonus, and an additional $2,000,000 in performance incentives.
Entering his fifth NFL season, the veteran running back has compiled 2,656 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns on 677 carries, along with 205 receptions for 1,450 yards and 11 touchdowns. However, his 2025 season saw him rush for just 572 yards and four touchdowns on 132 carries, along with 40 receptions for 218 yards despite playing all 17 games, including eight starts.
One of the biggest reasons behind Washington signing White is the running back’s old connection with quarterback Jayden Daniels. The two played together at Arizona State in 2021.
The Commanders possess a deep running back room, with Jacory Croskey-Merritt returning after leading the franchise with 805 rushing yards as a rookie. The team also retained Jeremy McNichols and added veteran Jerome Ford, sixth-round pick Kaytron Allen and undrafted rookie Robert Henry Jr.
Therefore, White could see a much-reduced role with this new team in 2026.
With his versatility as a receiver, the Commanders could use him as a complementary presence to Croskey-Merritt in the backfield.
