Public holiday: Police ban Keke NAPEP for Eid El Maulud celebration in Plateau

The Plateau State Police Command has announced a temporary ban on the operation of tricycles, popularly known as Keke NAPEP, across Jos Metropolis and other major towns in the state.

A statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the state, Alfred Alabo, said the decision was taken to enable the smooth celebration of Eid El Maulud scheduled for Tuesday.

DAILY POST reports that the federal government had declared Tuesday a public holiday to celebrate the 2026 Eid El Maulud.

According to Alabo, the ban will be in effect on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Ayodeji Faniyan, enjoined all “tricycle operators and members of the public to comply fully with this directive.”

He further assured residents of adequate deployment of personnel to major roads, prayer grounds and public places to ensure law and order before, during and after the celebrations.
