In the mid-2000s, a television series was taking the world by storm. Produced by J.J. Abrams, the puzzle-box mystery Lost was a singular story about 42 plane crash survivors who land on a dangerous and possibly supernatural island. The series was anchored by a large ensemble cast and a level of character-driven storytelling not previously attempted. Lost deserved the attention it received because of its focus on character, but Abrams’ follow-up was less celebrated.
In 2008, Fox premiered another mysterious series, this time in the world of fringe science. Aptly titled Fringe, the show was criminally underwatched but far more focused. Anna Torv stars as Olivia Dunham, an FBI agent thrown into a secret initiative that investigates strange anomalies in the world. Teaming up with the disgraced and mentally fragile Dr. Walter Bishop (John Noble) and his genius jack-of-all-trades son, Peter (Joshua Jackson), they discover a world of time travel, parallel dimensions, and supernatural abilities in one of the best examples of sci-fi television. Fringe delivers on the mysteries presented, but the heart of the series is resoundingly around the relationships.
‘Fringe’ Was Equally Plot and Character-Driven
It is rare to experience a television series that seamlessly alternates between plot developments and character moments, but Fringe accomplished this tenfold. The series could have become a by-the-numbers procedural, but it did away with these clichés thanks to the relationships at the center of the show. Olivia gets recruited into investigating The Pattern, a series of anomalies that seem to largely trace back to one man: Walter Bishop.
- You see further ahead than others and you plan accordingly, even when the vision frightens
you. - You are driven by loyalty to your people and a sense of destiny you didn’t ask for but
can’t escape. - Paul Atreides is not simply a hero. He is someone who understands the cost of power and
chooses to bear it anyway. - That gravity, that willingness to carry what others won’t, is exactly you.
- Dune: Part Three closes Denis Villeneuve’s trilogy on December 18, 2026, adapting Dune
Messiah. - Messiah is the book that turns on its own hero, which is why Villeneuve waited to film it.
- You take the mission seriously without ever taking yourself too seriously.
- Your crew would follow you anywhere, not because you demand it, but because you’ve
earned it. - Kirk’s genius isn’t tactical, it’s human. He reads people, bends rules with
purpose, and wills outcomes into existence through sheer conviction. - That combination of warmth, audacity, and relentless optimism is unmistakably yours.
- Paul Wesley’s Kirk took the center chair in Strange New Worlds season 4, which
premiered July 23, 2026. - The producers have confirmed Kirk stays with the show through its final season.
- You lead through conviction. Your voice carries because your belief is unshakable.
- You gave up everything ordinary the moment you chose the cause, and you’ve never looked
back. - Leia is not a supporting character in her own story. She is the moral center of the entire
rebellion. - That same fierce, principled, unbreakable core is what defines you.
- Carrie Fisher was 19 when she shot A New Hope, and Leia’s first scene in the saga is a
refusal. - Lucasfilm ruled out recreating her digitally, so her last appearance was built from footage
she had already filmed.
- You see threats clearly, you document the truth even when no one listens, and when the time
comes you handle it yourself. - Ripley’s heroism is earned, not performed. She doesn’t have a speech. She has a
plan and the nerve to see it through. - You share her composure under the worst possible pressure, and her refusal to pretend the
monster isn’t there. - When it counts, you don’t flinch. That’s everything.
- FX renewed Noah Hawley’s Alien: Earth for a second season, pushing the franchise onto
the home planet. - Sigourney Weaver has said she is seriously weighing a return to Ripley after reading a new
script.
- You don’t ask for help, don’t need validation, and don’t wait for anyone to
tell you the rules no longer apply. - Your loyalty, when it finally arrives, is absolute, but it’s earned in silence and
tested in action, not in words. - Max is not a nihilist. He is someone who lost everything and found, against his will, that
he still has something worth protecting. - That bruised, stubborn, ultimately human core is exactly yours.
- George Miller has a script for the next Mad Max, The Wasteland, but has said only that we
will see whether it gets made. - The 1979 original was shot for a few hundred thousand Australian dollars and became one of
the most profitable films ever made.
In his prime, Walter never compromised on his work and made remarkable advancements, but at the expense of the people around him. Years later, these events have come back and need to be dealt with. The only people able to do this are Walter and Peter, whose intellect surpasses everyone around them.
Most major plot turns stem from the relationship between Peter and Walter, such as the devastating reveal that the latter stole the former from another dimension. These twists aren’t just fascinating; they impact the emotional connections between the characters for better and for worse. Throughout the series, fans watch as the broken relationship between Peter and Walter is healed, though at great personal cost.

The series takes the well-trodden territory of a will-they-won’t-they partnership and turns it on its head. Peter and Olivia admit their feelings early on in the series, but their trials only just begin. The couple is thrown for a loop thanks to interdimensional travel, which often separates them. Their dynamic resonates just as much as Walter and Peter’s.
As often as Olivia and Peter are separated, they also prove that they are the love of each other’s lives. Even through brainwashing and getting erased from an entire timeline, they still remember each other and find a way to a happy ending. Fringe redefined what a subversive show could look like and delivered a gratifying finale that ultimately satisfied fans.
