Predictions, picks, odds for Auburn's Week 7 game at Georgia

The Auburn Tigers will return from a much-needed bye week to battle No. 1 Georgia on the road this Saturday.

Auburn’s date with Georgia will be its second of four games against a ranked team on its October schedule. The Tigers failed their first test by losing to No. 14 Tennessee in Week 5, 24-14. Auburn will also face No. 21 LSU and No. 10 Ole Miss before the calendar flips to November.

Georgia handled its first true test last Saturday, defeating No. 6 Alabama on the road, 20-17. The Bulldogs outgained Alabama, 455-346, but struggled in the penalty department, committing seven for 57 yards. The win, in addition to Texas’ loss to unranked Oklahoma, pushed Georgia to the No. 1 spot in both the US LBM Coaches Poll and the Associated Press poll ahead of Week 7.

The Bulldogs are the nation’s No. 1 team for several reasons, most of which can be found in stats. Georgia ranks No. 2 nationally in points per game (46.2), and is No. 1 in the SEC in points allowed (14.0), which ranks No. 11 nationally. Georgia also produces 474.8 yards per game while allowing opponents to gain 261.5 per game. Georgia is also great at protecting quarterback Gunner Stockton as they have allowed only six sacks through the midway point of the regular season.

Auburn is in the lower-tier of most SEC stat categories, but is among the conference’s best in interceptions. Auburn has hauled in six interceptions this season, which is tied with LSU and Missouri for the third-most in the SEC.

Here is an early look at the betting odds and a prediction for Saturday’s game between the Auburn Tigers and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Odds courtesy of BetMGM as of Monday, Oct. 12

  • Moneyline: Georgia (-1200) | Auburn (+825)
  • Spread: Georgia (-19)
  • Over/under: 49.5

Georgia 31, Auburn 13:Auburn will enter the game refreshed after its bye week, but will still have to deal with the machine that is the Georgia Bulldogs. Georgia ranks in the top five in most major statistical categories in the SEC, except passing, where they rank No. 6 in both passing offense and defense. Auburn could try to control Georgia by hanging on to the football for the majority of the game, but Auburn averages 26:22 in time of possession compared to Georgia’s 30:33. – Taylor Jones
