Prediction: Ukraine vs Hungary

In what could prove to be a nervy Nations League showdown on Monday night, Ukraine and Hungary will meet in Trnava.

With the Nations League action rolling onto Monday night, there are plenty of attractive betting promotions available.

Verdict: Both teams to score – No

Starting with Ukraine, while Andrea Maldera’s men might have opened their Nations League adventure with an eye-catching 1-0 victory in Budapest on September 25th, the Yellows have largely failed to find any kind of stability during the extended international break. Last seen over the weekend getting hit with a nightmare 3-0 drumming against Northern Ireland, the Yellows will know the importance of claiming a League B boost here. Missing out on a chance to book a World Cup ticket earlier in the year, Ukraine are also searching for a much-needed clinical edge in the final third. In fact, their 1-0 win away in Hungary last week, that is the only goal that Maldera’s inconsistent squad have bagged from their opening three Nations League appearances. Likewise, Ukraine have also failed to notch more than a single strike in six of their previous seven matchups across all competitions.

Both shown their own respective bookings against Northern Ireland over the weekend, the duo of Anderlecht attacker Danylo Sikan and Shakhtar Donetsk defender Mykola Matvienko will serve their own respective Nations League suspensions here.

While one-time West Ham forward Andriy Yarmolenko might have made a maiden Nations League start on Friday night, the 36-year-old will likely settle for a spot on the bench in Trnava. Dynamo Kyiv youngster Taras Mykhavko should be handed a full recall on Monday.

As for Hungary, claiming an essential League B boost over the weekend as they dragged themselves to a hard-fought 1-0 victory at home against Georgia, the Magyars will be desperate to now find some essential stability. Getting their respective Nations League charge underway with that 1-0 loss against Ukraine last week, Marco Rossi’s men have also shown their own extended attacking struggles. Signing off September with an uneventful 0-0 stalemate away in Northern Ireland, Hungary have also notched just a sole strike from their opening three Nations League showdowns. Largely crashing back down to earth since their bright start to 2026, Rossi’s camp have also failed to find any real fluidity on foreign soil. In fact, the Magyars have registered just a sole competitive victory on foreign soil since back in October 2024.

Shown a costly late booking against Georgia on Friday night after bagging a first-half winner, Liverpool defender Milos Kerkez will miss out here as the ex-Bournemouth star serves a one-match suspension. Putting pen to paper on a bumper new deal at Anfield over the summer, talismanic skipper Dominik Szoboszlai will lead Hungary out on Monday night and earn a 69th-cap.

While veteran defender Willi Orban might be set to turn 34 next month, the long-standing RB Leipzig ace will start at the heart of Rossi’s defence in Trnava.

Ukraine vs Hungary Key Factors to Consider

  • When Ukraine and Hungary met for their reverse Nations League showdown last week, the Yellows claimed a gritty 1-0 victory in Budapest.
  • Both Ukraine and Hungary have registered four points from their opening three Nations League matchups.
  • Both of Monday’s opponents have notched just a sole strike from their first three League B matchups.
  • Hungary have registered just a sole competitive victory on foreign soil since back in October 2024.
  • Ukraine have failed to notch more than a single strike in six of their previous seven appearances across all competitions.

Two camps who are searching for some much-welcomed stability, both Ukraine and Hungary have also gained a reputation for their struggles in the final third. With the League B rivals both notching just a sole strike since opening their respective Nations League campaigns, chances could come at a real premium on Monday night. While the Yellows might have snatched a gritty 1-0 victory when they travelled to Budapest last week, don’t be surprised to see another nervy battle from Trnava.
