Prayer service to be held for Celina High School quarterback seriously injured during game

A local church is holding a prayer service for a football player who was injured during a game Friday night.

Celina First Church of God shared on social media that it will hold a special prayer service at 7:00 p.m. for Parker Wynk, the senior quarterback of the Celina High School Bulldogs.

“The Wynks call Celina First home. They are part of our church family, and when one of our own is hurting, this is how the Church responds: we gather, we surround them, and we pray,” the post read. “They have asked us to join them in praying for Parker’s full and complete healing, and we want to invite anyone in our community to stand with them.”

Bridgeman texted Parker Wynk’s mother, Sierra. She said that her son is awake and feels like himself mentally.

Parker’s teammates visited him in the hospital along with his family.

Sierra told Bridgeman that the family is asking for prayers for his healing.

According to a post shared in the Bulldogs Friday Night Lights Facebook Group, made up of Celina High School Football parents, Parker was injured during Friday night’s game against St. Henry.

“While trying to recover a fumble, Parker collided with another player and his neck snapped backward. He immediately could not move or feel touch on his body. He could not move on the field, on the way to the hospital, or for some time after we arrived at Coldwater,” the post, shared on behalf of the Wynk family, said.

Parker has been able to feel sensations and can make small movements, but he received an injury to his spinal cord, according to the post.

“We are incredibly thankful that there are no broken bones or vertebrae and Parker’s brain is 100% okay. But his spinal cord has been injured, and right now we simply do not know what that will mean for his future,” the post read.

The Wynk family is asking for people to pray for Parker’s recovery.

“Please join us in praying specifically for Parker’s spinal cord to heal, for movement and feeling to return throughout his entire body, for the burning and pain to subside, and for strength physically, mentally and emotionally as he faces whatever comes next,” the post read.

The prayer service held at Celina First Church of God, located at 850 Fairground Rd in Celina, is open to the public.
