Power outage at Florida State delays game against SMU Mustangs

Just as Seminoles arrived for the 7:30 p.m. Labor Day game against the SMU Mustangs, the power went out at Doak S. Campbell Stadium.

“I was so excited to come see the game, but as soon as I got here the power went out. Hopefully it’ll turn back on soon,” FSU elementary education major said to the FSView.

A message on the stadium’s screen, which illuminated the dark stands, read “GAME DELAYED/POWER OUTAGE.”

“Right now, we do have a power outage. Our teams are currently working on it, but it looks like a transformer might have blown,” Seminole Hospitality Floor Captain Amanda Lesly Miranda said to the FSView. “We did get LEDs on for the stadium. That way the game can continue, but we are trying to actively work out the cause.”

According to ESPN, a transformer on the west side of the stadium went out, and efforts to reset it were unsuccessful.

As of 8:13 p.m., half of the stadium has regained power, but the delay is still in place. According to a stadium announcement, once power is restored, the teams will have a 10-minute warmup period before the game.

The FSView has reached out to Florida State Athletics for comment.
