Police rescue kidnapped mother, two-year-old son in Kwara

The Nigeria Police have successfully rescued an abducted woman along with her two-year-old son from a forest hideout located in Kwara State.

A statement issued by CSP Anietie Iniedu, the Force Public Relations Officer, indicated that based on credible intelligence, operatives from the Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT), in conjunction with local security support groups, conducted a tactical operation on Saturday in a forest at Bode Sadu, where the victims were being held.

The statement noted that when the operatives approached, the kidnappers opened fire in an attempt to thwart the operation, but they were met with a rapid tactical response, which compelled them to retreat further into the forest.

Following this, the operatives thoroughly searched the area and successfully rescued Adijat Kuburat, aged 43, and her two-year-old son, Abdul Malik Hamzat, from the kidnappers’ hideout.

“The rescued individuals have since been transported to a medical facility, where they are receiving necessary treatment and care, while efforts are being intensified to capture the fleeing suspects and dismantle the criminal network responsible for the abduction,” the statement further elaborated.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, praised the bravery and professionalism of the operatives involved in the rescue mission.

The statement further quoted the IGP as reaffirming that the Nigeria Police Force is dedicated to fighting kidnapping and other violent crimes through ongoing intelligence-led and collaborative operations until all criminal elements are brought to justice.
