The Zamfara State Police Command on Saturday said security operatives repelled an attempted attack by bandits on Bukuyum town in Bukuyum Local Government Area of the state.
The Command also said more than 30 bodies, suspected to be those of neutralised bandits, have been discovered in surrounding farmlands following the confrontation.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, October 31, 2026.
According to the statement, the ongoing clearance operation commenced on October 28 following an attempted attack on Bukuyum town by armed bandits.
It said police operatives, working in collaboration with local civil security outfits, engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, successfully preventing them from gaining access to the community.
The Command said the discovery of over 30 suspected bodies of bandits suggested that the attackers might have suffered significant casualties during the encounter.
However, it noted that the actual number of casualties had yet to be verified, explaining that bandits were known to evacuate their casualties from battle locations.
The police further said the successful defence of the town prevented possible loss of life, destruction of property and further displacement of residents.
It added that preliminary security assessments indicated that sustained operational pressure had forced some of the remaining armed bandits to flee the state.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the clearance operations in collaboration with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to rid the area of criminal elements and restore public confidence.
It also assured residents of its determination to ensure the safety and security of communities across the state.
