The Kano State Police Command has disbursed N34.3 million to the families of fallen police officers and officers who were injured in accidents under the Inspector-General of Police’s welfare scheme.
The presentation took place on Thursday at the Command Headquarters in Bompai, Kano, where the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, presented 62 cheques worth N34,309,073.70 to 62 beneficiaries.
According to the Command, the payment was made under the Group Life Assurance and Group Personal Accident Scheme, a welfare initiative of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at supporting the families of officers who died in the line of duty and those involved in accidents while carrying out their official responsibilities.
Presenting the cheques on behalf of the IGP, Bakori said the initiative showed that the sacrifices of fallen officers would not be forgotten.
“The loss of these gallant officers is deeply painful, not only to their families but to the entire Force,” he said.
“While no amount of money can replace a life, this token is the Force’s way of showing that we stand with the families they left behind.”
The Commissioner of Police urged the beneficiaries to use the money wisely, especially for the upkeep and education of the children and families of the deceased officers.
He also assured officers that the Command would continue to prioritise their welfare and ensure the timely payment of benefits to deceased and injured personnel.
Bakori added that more welfare packages were being planned for the families of fallen officers.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Malama Safiya Abdullahi Adamu thanked the Inspector-General of Police and the Kano State Police Command for their support.
She prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased officers and wished those who sustained injuries a speedy recovery.
