The Philadelphia Phillies are hosting the 2026 MLB All-Star Game in Philadelphia at Citizens Bank Park, and they have six representatives, including Bryce Harper.

But, in the week leading up to the All-Star Game and Harper’s participation in the Home Run Derby, a story from the Philadelphia Inquirer went viral about a video Harper made addressed to a fan, seemingly through a partnership with FanDuel.

After it went viral for a while, Harper finally responded on the morning of the Home Run Derby. As Front Office Sports shared on Twitter/x from Harper’s Instagram story, he broke his silence on the FanDuel and Cameo controversy, revealing his side of the story.

“… In November 2024, someone identifying themselves only as ‘Bryttanni’ submitted an order through Cameo for a personal ‘holiday video for Terry.’ Cameo had a separate category for business video requests, and at the time, I did not know this video would be used for commercial purposes. The request included a short script. I read it in good faith. FanDuel then put its own logo on the video and used it as a gambling promotion. I did not know FanDuel would do this, I did not consent to it, and FanDuel had no right to do it.”

Bryce Harper has released a statement about the Cameo video he made that FanDuel sent to a bettor who had lost over $1.5 million on the sportsbook.

Harper continued, “Had I known FanDuel’s true intent, I would not have made the video. The same is true had I known anything about Terry or his situation, or about any alleged ‘partnership’ between Cameo and FanDuel.”

The Phillies’ first baseman has a Cameo account, in which fans can pay a certain amount of money to receive personalized messages from Harper.

Many other athletes and celebrities use Cameo; it’s a fairly common practice, even if not overly popular. In this instance, Harper is insinuating that he received a request, honored it, and then FanDuel used it in a way that made it seem like it was a collaboration.

Harper noted how he “didn’t know” this video would be used by FanDuel for a VIP promotion, and that he has no affiliation with FanDuel “whatsoever.”

He also shared a screenshot of the alleged request from “Bryttanni,” which revealed the following script for Harper to read for Terry:

“Hey Terry, Your host Bryttanni (Britt-knee) from FanDuel wanted to make sure your Thanksgiving was extra special, so I just wanted to hop on and wish you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving. Tell Max (son) I said hello! … ^^ Can add his own personal touches to the above as well.”

There’s still an investigation into this situation, and from Harper’s angle, this commentary is made to clear the air on the viral controversy ahead of his participation in the Home Run Derby and All-Star Game.

Harper’s final line is where things are being left off for now, as more could come to light in the future: “Counsel has directed me not to comment any further at this time.”
