Nico Paz revelled in Como’s flying start to life in the Champions League, insisting he stayed at the club “for nights like this” following their 4-1 rout of RB Leipzig.
Cesc Fabregas’ side enjoyed a day to remember at Stadio Sinigaglia, where they marked their maiden match in Europe’s premier club competition in style.
Martin Baturina, Tasos Douvikas, Assane Diao and Maxi Perrone were all on target for the Serie A outfit, while Paz also played a key role with two assists.
The attacking midfielder had been linked with a move away from Como, including a potential return to Real Madrid, who retain a buy-back option, while Arsenal are reportedly interested in the Argentina international.
This is after his 18 direct goal involvements (12 goals, six assists) helped his side to a fourth-place finish in Serie A last season, with Paz’s tally the most among midfielders.
Como became only the fourth Italian team to win their first match in the Champions League, and the second to score four or more goals on their competition bow.

“It was an historic night, we had an incredible game,” Paz told Sky Sport Italia.
“We were so excited to play this game, and we’re really happy. It was for nights like this that I wanted to stay.
“I knew this is where I would grow the most, and I am really pleased with my decision. I made the right choice.”
Nevertheless, the 22-year-old is not keen to rest on his laurels, insisting he will always strive for improvements.
“It was a difficult match [against Leipzig], because I was always man-marked the whole time, so this opened up spaces for my team-mates,” he added.
“I didn’t get the ball as much as usual, but I had a bit more after the break. Of course, I can always do better.”
