Patriots WR Kayshon Boutte makes admission on A.J. Brown trade

New England Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte believes A.J. Brown is a good addition to the team.

When speaking with WBZ’s Dan Roche, Boutte opened up for the first time about the Patriots trading for the three-time All-Pro wideout. Some have wondered if Boutte might be on the way out in New England. With the addition of Brown and Romeo Doubs, there’s a good chance that he won’t see the same number of targets that he saw last season.

Couple that with the fact that he’s in the final year of his rookie contract, and that could be a cause for concern.

“That was a good pick up, man,” Boutte admitted. “He a great dude, you know? You watch him play, dominate, great X receiver, dominant, whether that’s deep ball, short route, catch a slant, take it to the house. Big, big-bodied, contested catcher… I’m a X receiver too, so I sit there and kinda watch his tape. That’s a guy you see that constantly wins one-on-ones.”

Boutte staying on the roster would give the Patriots one of the deepest wide receiver rooms in the NFL. He proved to be Drake Maye’s best deep threat target last season, and the team would obviously find ways to work him into the mix if he’s still around. But will he still be on the roster?

It’s a complicated question that should work itself out in the coming days or weeks.
