The Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s latest release just confirmed another character that Thanos snapped out of existence with the Infinity Gauntlet, continuing a trend from the franchise’s Multiverse Saga. The MCU’s slate of projects continues to debut exciting new characters. That happens both through new MCU TV shows and movies, including major characters from the comics and a few obscure players.
Soon, Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom will take over as the main villain of the MCU in December’s Avengers: Doomsday. That said, for now, that role remains firmly in the hands of Josh Brolin’s Thanos. It is impressive how the MCU managed to build up to the Mad Titan throughout the Infinity Saga, with 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War being Thanos’ movie.
While Doctor Doom is a formidable character and Downey is the face of the MCU, the franchise has not nearly set him up in the same way that it did Brolin’s Thanos. The Mad Titan ended up being successful in his endeavor, collecting all the Infinity Stones and turning to dust half of the universe in Avengers: Infinity War‘s shocking ending.

Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for VisionQuest episodes 5 and 6.After the MCU movie, the Multiverse Saga continued to reveal other characters that were snapped out of existence by Thanos. Most of these had not yet made their franchise debuts at the time of the Snap. Now, on Disney+, VisionQuest has revealed yet another MCU character who Thanos erased from existence, and his life was forever changed by the ordeal.

VisionQuest episodes 5 and 6 were recently released on Disney+, and with them came the confirmation that Todd Stashwick’s Paladin was one of the many MCU characters who were snapped by Thanos due to the events of Avengers: Infinity War. While Paladin turned to dust, his daughter did not. Upon returning to life years later, when Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk brought everyone back in Avengers: Endgame, Paladin chose not to go to his daughter, letting her think he died and never came back. The decision was a mix between wanting to keep her safe from his dangerous work and also the fact their bond was shattered.
Paladin made his MCU debut in VisionQuest, though the show has established that he has been operating in the franchise for years, with dialogue suggesting he has had run-ins with characters like Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and Gael García Bernal’s Werewolf by Night. Marvel has started a trend of characters who had not yet shown up in the MCU by Avengers: Infinity War who would later be revealed to have been snapped by Thanos. Paladin has joined the likes of Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova and Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau on that list, all having their lives changed by Thanos without ever meeting him.
Will Thanos Ever Return To The MCU?
Speaking about the Mad Titan, Thanos might be dead in the MCU, but the character’s chances of returning to the franchise in a few upcoming projects are quite high. Not only has Brolin indicated that he would love to return as Thanos in future movies, but the Marvel villain is closely tied to a couple of major characters with projects on the way. For instance, after he becomes God Emperor Doom in the comics’ Secret Wars, Doctor Doom easily kills Thanos, separating the Mad Titan’s spine from his body by hand without breaking a sweat.
As such, this could happen either at the very end of Avengers: Doomsday, or, more likely, in 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars. Brolin’s Thanos could also return in the MCU’s Nova movie, which is currently in development, as Thanos’ destruction of Xandar through a flashback sequence should serve as a major narrative point of Richard Rider’s story. It would allow fans to see how the Nova Corps fell and how Thanos acquired the only Infinity Stone that Marvel did not show him getting onscreen.
