Patriots CB Christian Gonzalez breaks silence on contract uncertainty

Christian Gonzalez didn’t have much of an update on his current contract situation with the New England Patriots. But he did attend Day 1 of mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, and he briefly spoke with reporters after practice.

“I got obligations, I’m here,” Gonzalez said, via ESPN’s Mike Reiss. “Training camp, I’m not worried about that. We’re in mandatory minicamp right now. So that’s what we’re focused on.”

Gonzalez is currently entering the fourth year of his rookie contract. The Patriots have already exercised his fifth-year option, which keeps him on the roster through at least the 2027 season. That gives the two sides an extension on hammering out a long-term contract agreement.

With that said, Gonzalez is set to make $4.8 million in 2026. It’s hard to envision a player who has quickly established himself as one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL playing for that rate.

“I hope,” Gonzalez responded when asked if an extension was imminent. “That’s up to my agents and the team, and I hope we get something done.”
