Panthers sign 2 players, including familiar face, on Friday

The Carolina Panthers have brought back a familiar face following a rough development on defense.

As announced on Friday, the Panthers have signed outside linebacker Cam Gill. The addition, which was first reported on by Greg Auman of FOX Sports, comes in light of the ACL tear to second-year pass rusher Nic Scourton—who was carted off from the opening session of training camp and placed on injured reserve this morning.

A Sumter, S.C. native and Wagner College standout, Gill began is NFL career as an undrafted free agent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020. He’d spend the next four years there, totaling 2.5 sacks over 40 games while picking up a ring as a member of the organization’s Super Bowl LV team.

Gill moved on to Carolina in 2024, where he picked up his most recent bit of regular-season action in the NFL. He’d go on to tally 22 combined tackles in 10 appearances for the Panthers.

This past spring, Gill starred for the Louisville Kings—leading the United Football League with 11.0 sacks, including one in postseason play. He was named the UFL’s 2026 Defensive Player of the Year and helped lead the Kings to a win in the United Bowl—the UFL’s championship game.

Carolina also added rookie offensive tackle Derrell Bailey—a 6-foot-6, 320-pounder out of Georgia State University. Bailey was one of six players who worked out for the Panthers on Thursday.
