Penn State opens play in seven days – and right now there are three players wearing No. 7 listed on the roster.
The most prominent is senior defensive back Zion Tracy. He’s been a regular in Penn State’s secondary for the past two seasons, starting more than 25 games for the Nittany Lions.
His most famous play is the pick six early in 2024’s loss to Ohio State. At the time, his score gave the Lions a 10-0 lead at home and it looked like Penn State might get a signature victory. Tracy also had an interception in Penn State’s Fiesta Bowl win against Boise State in the College Football Playoff Semifinals.
Two offensive players are currently listed as wearing No. 7 and both have battled issues that have kept them off the field.
Wide receiver Peter Gonzalez was a touted prospect from Pittsburgh Central Catholic, but injuries have hindered his Penn State career to this point.
Meanwhile, transfer quarterback Alex Manske is just now getting back on the field after having open-heart surgery that kept him off the field in the spring. He is healthy and could possibly see some time in a week when Penn State opens up against Marshall.
